This section  provides generic information concerning operations in the Free Route Airspace (FRA) within DK-SE FAB FRA and NEFAB FRA as of 25 May 2017. Detailed information on FRA is provided in the AIPs of the participating states.

AREA

The concerned FRA area consists of Finland FIR (excluding Helsinki TMA), København FIR, Norway FIR, Riga FIR, Sweden FIR and Tallinn FIR.

FRA GENERAL PROCEDURES

Entering and exiting FRA
Entering/exiting the common FRA from/to outside airspace is always via FRA Entry (E) and Exit (X) points. These points are usually located on the outer FIR border. In some instances there is a compulsory ATS route or a published DCT segment to/from the FIR boundary to/from these (E) and (X) points. These mandatory routes are described in national RAD/AIP. An example of such mandatory ATS route is depicted in the figure below, showing TOMPA as FRA Exit point (X).  Traffic leaving Estonian FIR towards Sankt-Peterburg FIR shall plan P862 after the FRA (X).

Helsinki TMA is not part of the FRA. Transiting through the Helsinki TMA is via (E) and (X) points located at the TMA boundary.

Arriving and departing within FRA
For arriving traffic a DCT route to an aerodrome FRA arrival connecting point (A) is allowed, regardless of the flight level at this point. These arrival connecting points are usually located in the vicinity of the airports. In some instances these points are located further away from the aerodrome with a compulsory FRA connecting route to the TMA.

For departing traffic a DCT route from the aerodrome FRA departure connecting point (D) is allowed, regardless of the flight level at the departure point. In some instances these points are located further away from the aerodrome with a compulsory FRA connecting route from the TMA.

Arrival (A) and departure (D) connecting points for each aerodrome are defined in national AIP/RAD. The FRA connecting routes are also published in national AIP/RAD.

FRA connecting routes are published for the following aerodromes:
EFIN FIR: EFHK
EKDK FIR: EKCH, EKRK
ENOR FIR: ENBR, ENGM, ENRY/ENTO, ENVA, ENZV
ESAA FIR: ESCF, ESGG, ESGP, ESKN, ESMS, ESSA, ESSB, ESSL, ESSP
